 | | | I think too many people assume "cabaret" means a certain style and sound. My show mixes great melodies from various eras performed by a singer and pianist, comedy monologues, ad libs, parody lyrics and social satire, all to make the point that you shouldn't let society's obsession with youth keep you from pursuing your dreams at any age. Only a live, cabaret-style show could let me combine all those elements and make a real personal connection with the audience.
So much entertainment today is machine-made, from "singers" lip-synching studio-created tracks to movies that are 95% CGI effects. Very little is real anymore. But in cabaret, performers must have the talent to deliver live, and the audience is a part of the show, so each performance is unique. That's why so many people who are starved for a human touch in entertainment are happily rediscovering cabaret clubs. | Dallas | MY SHIP HAS SAILED: How to be a Late-Bloomer in a World Obsessed with Extreme Youth! | | | | Cabaret is Theater in a Bar! | New York | Web Site | | | | Cabaret Music is like a stained glass window to the soul. When you hear a great performer, with the right piece of music, they touch you in ways you never could imagine. They open up and let you see the different colors, shapes and textures of the song, through their voice. What you are seeing are the colors, shapes and textures of your own soul. The singer is merely a catalyst that pulls you into the song and the emotion that they are expressing, but you see and feel it through your experiences and emotions. That's what they mean when they say you connect with a performer - that you can relate... they take you to places in your own heart that you may have never known were there.
